I’m a comedy writer and improviser living in Denver Colorado. You can read my profile and updates at mikedmiller.com.
I’m heading to to the Austin Film Festival with news that I’m a Second Rounder in the Film Festival Competition for sitcom. It is my first time attending (or submitting) and I’m honored to be a Second Rounder and very excited to attend the special workshops and panels.
With a new record of 9,100 entries, this year’s scripts proved to be incredibly competitive and featured a high standard of exemplary stories, including your own. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and you should be extremely proud of your success. We were impressed with the overall quality of the work this year and our readers returned many positive evaluations, making for an extremely tough judging process.
I’m so glad the judges / readers liked that script and using my motivation to write something even strong as I work on completing the two Pilots I hope to have ready to submit next.
Last year my “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Spec Script won 1st place in the TVWriter Scriptacular competition for the best comedy of 2015. Visit this blog post to read what the judges had to say. I loved writing this Spec and I’m excited to share with you news about my original comedy Pilot projects. Keep watch for more about that.
That’s the most recent news… but more in happening ever week so keep watch. I love what I do.
Where I came from
I fell in love studying comedy writing and improv at the Second City and that was pretty much it… I was hooked. I’ve had the opportunity to do a number of things with my life. I chose this. I remember one of the questions that kept rolling around in my noggin was “When do you want to spend your life doing?”. For me the answer was writing comedy and I focus on writing “Smart and from the Heart”.
I’ve written for a number of sketch comedy shows in Downtown Denver including the Prime Time Comedy Show, America the Unicorn Comedy Revue, and multiple Bovine Metropolis Theater Holiday Shows. I write, direct, and create digital shorts for the online sketch channel I founded at theurbanbrain.com. Urban Brain brings together a great group of amazing actors, writers, improvisers, stand up comedians, and comedy loving local Denverites for the pure enjoyment of sharing laughter and having fun. I’ve written jokes for “After Dark with Julian Clark” and threw my hat in the ring for the NBC Late Night Writer’s workshop.
I’m a graduate of the UCLA Professional Program in Television Writing and I’m currently writing two new Pilots and might even have a very talented actress interested in the leading part of one. Keep following here for more news on that.
